Neighborhood Improvement District
(NID)

Background 

Since its inception, North Manasota Key has been a non-deed restricted community which allows all residents to make autonomous decisions about their property.  Thus, the NMK Association is a voluntary organization that maintains the road, security, utilities and provides disaster relief for all residents.  This type of organizational structure has presented some challenges with disparate road materials and utilities along the 2-mile stretch of North Manasota Key.  In 2023, an effort to restructure into a Neighborhood Improvement District gained momentum which would allow a 75% approval process in order to advance key-wide initiatives.  The priorities that have been identified are: 

• Bury electrical power to eliminate the fire hazard of power lines traversing foliage and dry palm trees

• Update the road 

• Introduce fiber optic cable to elevate technology capabilities and property values.
